Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters: The Board Game

That’s right, you heard correctly, just when you  thought the Ghostbusters female movie reboot was enough to fuel your nerdy needs, here we have the release of Ghostbusters: The Board Game.

They started funding on the none-more-loved-crowdfunding-site-for-tabletop-gamers  Kickstarter yesterday with its release date set for October this year.

The game is Cryptozoic Entertainment’s (a board game production company) latest, officially licensed by Sony and the first Ghostbusters board game in about 30 years.

With a funding goal of $250,000, they only have a mere 5000 odd dollars left to reach the goal and only having 24 hours under their belt.

“Are you troubled by strange noises in the middle of the night? Do you experience feelings of dread in your basement or attic? Have you or your family ever seen a spook, spectre, or ghost? If the answer is “yes,” then don’t wait another minute. Pick up the phone and call the professionals . .”

ghostbustertwoThis funding project is looking up and I think due to the popularity of the franchise, they will easily make their stretch goals and place among the most backed/funded projects in Kickstarter. Without a doubt, they will reach their funding goal by the end of today, maybe even in the next couple of hours. As I am writing this, they have funded another $2000. Talk about punctuality.

ghostbustersoneGhostbusters: The Board Game is listed as an episodic adventure game for 1 to 4 players. You are charged with busting ghosts and sealing gates to the Spirit World. The game has a high re-playablity factor with customizable and cooperative elements.

Play as one of the four original Ghostbusters and defeat Slimers, ghouls and even the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man!

Each character, Venkman, Stantz, Spengler and Zeddemore, have special skills/abilities and fighting styles to counter the ghosts, which I think is a good character building technique that adds depth to a fan or beginner’s experience.

There are over 40 monster figurines to bust. The figurines are based on the artwork of Dan Schoening, a stenciler/artist from IDW’s Ghostbusters comic book series.

There are two versions of the game to be purchased: a Base version for $80/£52 and a Deluxe Edition for $125/£82.
